International Skeptics Day

Guest Blogger Sarah takes on skepticism:

“While checking a calendar recently, I was pleased to see a holiday that deserves to be celebrated all month long:  International Skeptics Day.  That’s right, every October skeptics across the world can come together for a good dose of doubting.  A related article explains being skeptical is a great thing, because it causes one to inquire about the validity of the truth behind the belief.  We here at OMI fully support this kind of investigatory skepticism.

In fact, it is a passion of ours to educate consumers to ask the right questions, get meaningful answers, and put an end to “greenwashing.” What is greenwashing?  This is when companies use misleading, irrelevant, often fraudulent words and logos to misdirect the consumer enough to believe a product supports the healthy lifestyle they are committed to.  An all too common example is the shampoo plastered with the words: “Made with organic aloe and herbal extracts.”  This does not tell the whole story of what endocrine disruptors, neurotoxins, carcinogens, and other harmful artificial fragrances are also included with the “natural” or “organic” contributions.

If you eat organic, shouldn’t you sleep organic?  By changing your family’s mattresses to a product made with third-party certified raw materials, in an Eco Factory and GREENGUARD certified to the most stringent standards, you have immediately improved one-third of your lives.  It’s that easy!”
